# 6 AI Visibility Tools We Tested on Our Own Brand in 2026

> We set up six AI visibility tools on our own brand with their default settings. Rankscale and Scrunch gave the most honest starting picture. Peec AI and Writesonic led with headline numbers inflated by prompts that already contained our name, and SE Ranking measured the wrong market. In every tool, the numbers only became trustworthy after we checked the prompt set, the competitor list and how brand names were matched.

This list is for owners and marketing leads at small and mid-sized businesses who are about to pay for an AI visibility tool, or already use one. In October 2026 we signed up for free trials of six tools, set each one up for Cognova AI with its default onboarding, and compared what each dashboard said with the AI answers underneath. The tools are ordered by how close their default setup came to the truth, best first. We are a GEO consultancy, we are not affiliated with any of these vendors, and we tested each one on its standard trial.

## 1. Rankscale

**Verdict:** The most accurate default setup we saw, held back by brand-name matching that splits one company into several.

**Best for:** Small teams that want honest numbers on a budget and are happy to clean up the brand list themselves.

Rankscale was the only tool whose automatic setup asked the questions a buyer of our services would actually ask. All six prompts were about AI voice agents, each tagged by buying stage (awareness, consideration or purchase), and it ran them on ChatGPT, Google AI Mode and Copilot. Instead of a hand-picked competitor list, it adds every brand the answers mention, so it cannot track the wrong rivals. Its share of voice counts all of those brands, which is why it showed 'Others' holding most of the market instead of flattering a short list.

Two things to watch. The same company appeared under several names ('Retell' and 'Retell AI', 'Bland' and 'Bland AI', 'Vapi AI' and 'VAPI'), and AI models such as GPT-4o and Claude were counted as competitors, so merge and remove entries before reading the leaderboard. Two of the six prompts named a rival in the question and were still labelled non-branded, which pushed those two rivals to the top of the chart.

**Pros:**
- Auto-generated prompts matched our real market, with buying-stage tags
- Competitors discovered from the answers, not guessed
- Splits sentiment into what comes from training data and what comes from live web results
- Shows the searches AI engines run before answering, including site: searches on rival domains

**Cons:**
- One company counted under several names until you merge them
- Everything runs on credits, so heavier tracking or prompt research costs extra
- API and MCP access only on paid plans

## 2. Scrunch

**Verdict:** The most honest headline number out of the box, with a competitor list that missed the brand the answers named most.

**Best for:** Mid-market and enterprise teams that want measurement plus tools to act on it, and have budget for higher tiers.

Scrunch's starter prompts were all non-branded, so its headline mention rate for Cognova AI was 0%, the uncomfortable number every tool should lead with. When a brand is not mentioned, Scrunch shows position and sentiment as empty instead of a flattering 'first place'. It also checks whether the pages AI cites actually mention your brand, and its alerts are tested for statistical significance before they fire.

Its setup tracked three rivals (Bland AI, Retell AI and Vapi). The brand its own answers named most often, Synthflow, was not on the list, so its competitor share of voice was split across only three names. The starter prompt set was small and generic, so plan to add your own. Scrunch also sells tools to act on findings, including outreach drafts for cited pages and a service that serves AI crawlers a simplified version of your pages; we did not test those on a trial.

**Pros:**
- Defaults to non-branded prompts, so the headline is honest
- Leaves position and sentiment empty when you are not mentioned
- Checks whether cited pages mention your brand
- Significance-tested alerts and a clear, well-documented metric glossary

**Cons:**
- Auto-picked competitors missed the most-named rival
- Small starter prompt set with no buying stage or persona attached
- Many of the fixing features are enterprise-only or in beta

## 3. Analyze

**Verdict:** The deepest evidence trail of the six, but its prompts and collection method can tilt the numbers.

**Best for:** Teams that want to see exactly why a number moved and are willing to check the prompt set.

Analyze picked the right four competitors (Retell AI, Synthflow, Vapi and Bland AI) and records unusual detail for every mention: which detection methods agreed, how confident it is, and the exact sentence behind each sentiment score. Its prebuilt reports go further than most tools, covering prompts where a rival outranks you, themes AI associates with rivals but not with you, and whether a given page is worth pursuing for a mention. It also flagged a real problem on our old site: pages listed in the sitemap that no AI engine cited.

Two cautions. A third of its prompts named three rivals in the question, which guarantees those rivals appear and lifts their visibility. And its only mention of Cognova AI came from an answer that described us as 'the user organization', a sign the tool had passed our own setup to the AI along with the question. Without that answer our visibility was zero, as in every other tool.

**Pros:**
- Correct competitor set out of the box
- Evidence and confidence attached to every mention and sentiment score
- Reports that point to specific gaps, not just charts
- Ties AI referral traffic to conversions and revenue through Google Analytics

**Cons:**
- Several prompts name rivals in the question
- Counted one answer that was shaped by our own account setup
- Some reports came back empty while others showed data for the same period

## 4. Writesonic

**Verdict:** A capable dashboard whose headline number depends on which screen you open.

**Best for:** Content teams that want AI visibility tracking alongside writing and SEO tools in one subscription.

Writesonic's main AI visibility dashboard opens on non-branded prompts, which is the right default, and there Cognova AI scored zero. But its home page widget mixed in five prompts that contained our domain name and reported a visibility figure above 15%, and its citations page did the same. All of our apparent visibility came from those branded prompts. It also tracks how quickly a page loses citation share over time, which few tools do.

Its automatic prompts drifted into market-research and survey software, so the most-cited pages were about the wrong category, and its competitor list left out Retell AI. On the trial, the MCP connection, citation opportunities and sentiment themes were locked behind paid tiers, and the in-app banner said the trial converts to a paid plan automatically, so set a reminder if you are only testing.

**Pros:**
- Main dashboard defaults to non-branded prompts
- Citation decay tracking shows when pages start losing ground
- AI visibility sits next to content, SEO and site audit tools

**Cons:**
- Home page and citations page lead with branded-inflated numbers
- Auto-generated prompts measured the wrong market for us
- Key features and API access gated behind higher plans

## 5. Peec AI

**Verdict:** Excellent raw data and transparent documentation, with default settings that make the headline number look far better than reality.

**Best for:** Analysts and agencies who will dig into the raw answers and filter to non-branded prompts themselves.

Peec AI gave us the richest data of the six: six days of answers from ChatGPT, Google AI Overviews and Gemini, every cited source, the searches ChatGPT ran, and stored copies of cited pages so you can see when a page changed. Its documentation explains exactly how each metric is calculated, and its recommendations named specific articles to pitch and threads to join.

The defaults are the problem. A fifth of the prompts it generated contained our brand name, so its headline visibility of 20.7% simply reflected those prompts: across the 1,821 answers to non-branded prompts, Cognova AI was mentioned zero times. Its share of voice of 97% was measured against seven enterprise AI companies that AI almost never named, while the rivals that did appear were not tracked. Filtering to non-branded prompts and replacing the competitor list fixes most of this.

**Pros:**
- Full answers, cited sources, search fan-outs and page history
- Clear, public definitions for every metric
- Recommendations that name specific pages and communities

**Cons:**
- Headline visibility includes prompts that contain your brand name
- Auto-selected competitors may not compete with you at all
- No error ranges, so small daily swings look like trends

## 6. SE Ranking

**Verdict:** The broadest platform of the six, but its automatic setup measured a market we do not compete in.

**Best for:** Teams already doing SEO in SE Ranking who want AI tracking, ads data and backlink metrics in one place.

SE Ranking combines a full SEO suite with AI tracking, plus a few things none of the others offer: a database of AI answers you can query for any domain without setting up prompts, tracking of ads that appear inside ChatGPT and Google AI Mode, and SEO metrics such as backlinks attached to every source AI cites. Its separate SE Visible product focuses only on AI visibility.

Its automatic setup for us generated ten prompts about business analytics and forecasting tools, ran them on ChatGPT only, and added two competitors under the wrong web domains, so the answers named Power BI and Tableau instead of anyone we compete with. Its AI answer database also returned different leaderboards depending on the exact brand name typed: with the names its own lookup suggested, one rival's mentions disappeared entirely. Check names and prompts before trusting any chart.

**Pros:**
- Visibility lookup for any domain with no setup
- Tracks ads inside ChatGPT and Google AI Mode
- SEO metrics on every cited source
- 14-day trial without a credit card

**Cons:**
- Automatic prompts and competitors were off-market for us
- Leaderboards change with the exact brand name entered
- AI tracking is split across two products with separate setups

## The bottom line

If you want an honest starting point on a small budget, start with Rankscale and merge duplicate brand names before reading anything. If you need measurement plus tools to act on it, Scrunch had the most honest defaults. Whatever you choose, the tool is only as accurate as its prompt set, competitor list and brand-name settings, so review all three in the first week.

## How we tested

Between October 22 and October 28, 2026, we set up Cognova AI in each tool using its default onboarding and accepted whatever prompts and competitors it suggested. We then compared each dashboard's numbers with the AI answers it had collected. Peec AI had six days of data; the other five had one collection run each, so treat their figures as a first look rather than a trend.

## 5 mistakes to avoid when reading any AI visibility dashboard

1. **Reading the headline before the prompt filter.** Check whether the number includes prompts that contain your brand name. The figure that matters comes from questions buyers ask before they know you.
2. **Trusting the default competitor list.** Compare it with the brands that actually appear in the answers. A wrong list makes share of voice meaningless.
3. **Ignoring how brand names are matched.** One company recorded under three names, or a name that never matches, quietly changes every leaderboard.
4. **Assuming the prompts describe your market.** Read them. Two of the six tools measured us in categories we do not sell in.
5. **Treating a single day as a trend.** AI answers vary from run to run. Wait for several runs, and judge a change only against prompts you did not touch.

## How Cognova AI can help

We run this same check for clients: we audit the prompts, competitors and brand names in whichever AI visibility tool you already pay for, then measure what AI actually says about you on the questions your buyers ask. You get the real number, the pages AI relies on in your category, and a short list of fixes. ## Frequently asked questions

### Which AI visibility tool is most accurate?

In our October 2026 test on our own brand, Rankscale and Scrunch gave the most accurate starting picture of AI visibility, because their automatic setups used non-branded prompts in the right market. No AI visibility tool was accurate without checking. Each needed its prompt set, competitor list and brand-name matching reviewed before the numbers reflected what AI actually says to buyers.

### Why is my AI visibility score so high when I never see my brand in ChatGPT?

A high AI visibility score often comes from branded prompts, questions that already contain your company name. AI almost always mentions a brand that the question names, so those prompts lift the average. Filter your AI visibility tool to non-branded prompts, the questions buyers ask before they know you, to see the number that reflects how often AI recommends you.

### What is AI share of voice and why can it mislead?

AI share of voice is your share of brand mentions in AI answers compared with the competitors your tool tracks. It misleads when the tracked competitor list is wrong. In one tool we tested, our AI share of voice looked like 97% because it was measured against companies AI rarely named, while the rivals that AI recommended were not on the list.

### How many prompts should I track for AI visibility?

Track enough prompts to cover the questions buyers ask at each stage, from discovery to comparison to pricing, mostly without your brand name in them. The starter sets we saw ranged from 5 to 96 prompts. A small, well-chosen set of non-branded prompts in your real market tells you more about AI visibility than a large set that drifts into other categories.
